What is cosmetic glycerin?
Cosmetic glycerin is a highly purified substance used in the production of skincare, hair, and nail care products. This is because, as an ingredient, it acts as a moisturizer, regenerates, and protects the skin, while also binding water, preventing skin dryness, and increasing the elasticity and softness of the epidermis. The effectiveness of its use is greatly influenced by its quality. Physicochemical properties
Cosmetic glycerin, in a ready-to-incorporate form, is a thick liquid with high hygroscopicity and viscosity, which – importantly for the cosmetics industry – effectively attracts and retains water. It is soluble in water and alcohols. This combination of physicochemical properties makes it an excellent ingredient in emulsions and water-based cosmetics. Furthermore, cosmetic glycerin is highly chemically stable and relatively resistant to temperature and light exposure. As a result, even exposure to these factors does not negatively impact the longevity of products containing glycerin.
How does cosmetic glycerin work?
Cosmetic glycerin is hygroscopic, which means it primarily acts as a powerful humectant; as such, it is a moisturizing substance that attracts and retains water in the skin. Due to its structure, based on microscopic molecules, it easily penetrates the epidermis, improving its elasticity, appearance, and softness. Additionally, glycerin effectively protects the skin from external factors by forming a thin protective film on its surface that prevents moisture loss for many hours.

Cosmetic glycerin is an indispensable ingredient in the production of cosmetics primarily, though not exclusively, for skincare, body care, and hair care. It is widely used in creams, lotions, shampoos, face masks, and makeup products.
